About us.

The biggest killer in men under 50 is suicide. The biggest killer in men over 50 is heart disease.

We want to help.

FootballXL uses our love of football to improve mental and physical health. It was launched in 2024 in Wakefield by seven self-acclaimed ‘fat lads’ who wanted to make a real difference to men in the area.

It’s a place where like-minded individuals can meet new people, improve mental wellbeing and physical health, and enjoy playing football.

What you'll get.

1:1 Support

Coaching is led by you, with elected player facilitators responsible for each league. This is someone who has had success improving their wellbeing through exercise and watching what they eat. They will support you on your journey to better health and wellbeing.

Play for longer

Each FootballXL session starts with a check-in, followed by 50 minutes of football, focused on boosting mental and physical wellbeing. We adapt pitch sizes weekly to allow 6, 7, 8, or 9-a-side games, so everyone gets maximum time on the ball.

Improve social life

Each of our healthy mind leagues includes regular social events, as well as annual awards and national tournaments. You can also join the associated 11 a-side team, which plays across the region with a final in May.

Pricing

For £24.50 a month, you'll get:
